Already in 2009 Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner designed a lamp for a single light-emitting diode. But it lasted until today that the LED technology has developed so far that his concept could be realized. The Italian lighting manufacturer, Karboxx, together with Thomas Feichtner, present the design for the Euroluce and the Salone del Mobile 2017 in Milan for the first time as a serial product.
The Balance Light is a consistently reduced to cable and illuminant. The table lamp lights the whole desk surface, or its light can be directed precisely to a spot. The light is not focused via a complex mechanical system or by adjusting a reflector but simply by putting the whole lamp into a horizontal position. Its construction allows placing it on the desk at two different angular positions. The lamp can be put down in a horizontal position with the illuminant slightly above the desk surface or in a vertical position with a maximum distance between the illuminant and the desk surface. The lamp keeps its balance as in a balancing act. Therefore the name Balance Light. The conclusive implementation of the simple construction, with the cable running through the tube to the illuminant - the destination point and the source of light - was made possible by latest LED technology. LEDs do not require a reflector to concentrate the emitted light, and thus it was possible to simply put the LED into the tube.
Bereits 2009 entwarf der österreichische Designer Thomas Feichtner eine Leuchte für eine einzelne Leuchtdiode. Doch erst heute ist die LED-Technologie soweit fortgeschritten, dass sein Konzept auch realisiert werden konnte. Der italienischen Leuchtenhersteller Karboxx gemeinsam mit Thomas Feichtner präsentieren zur Euroluce, und zum Salone del Mobile 2017 in Mailand erstmals diesen Entwurf als Serienprodukt.
Die Leuchte Balance ist konsequent auf das Wesentlichste wie Kabel und Leuchtmittel reduziert. Die Tischleuchte kann einen ganzen Schreibtisch ausleuchten oder auf einen Punkt fokussieren. Die Fokussierung des Lichts erfolgt jedoch nicht über eine komplexe Mechanik oder die Verstellung eines Reflektors, sondern lediglich über das Umlegen der gesamten Leuchte. Sie ist so konstruiert, dass sie in zwei unterschiedlichen Winkeln auf einem Tisch platziert werden kann. Liegend, mit dem Leuchtmittel knapp über dem Tisch und stehend mit einer möglichst großen Distanz zwischen Leuchtmittel und Oberfläche des Tisches. Dabei hält die Leuchte, gleich einem Balanceakt, ihr Gleichgewicht von selbst. Daher auch die Namensgebung Balance Light. Die simple Konstruktion, mit dem Kabel durch das Rohr zum Leuchtmittel als Endpunkt und Lichtquelle, konnte erst mit neuester LED-Technologie schlüssig umgesetzt werden. Eine LED benötigt keinen zusätzlichen Reflektor, um Licht zu bündeln und konnte somit einfach in das Rohr versenkt werden.
