A PORCELAIN VASE

The Porcelain Vase, is produced by the tradition-steeped Viennese manufactory Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten. Vases have always been both a central element of product design and something of a cultural-historical reflection. They are at once archetypical and autonomous. And in equal measure, they embody both documents of their respective eras and visions of the future. No Austrian producer is more closely linked to the history of the vase than Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten. As the world’s second-oldest porcelain manufactory, Augarten has continued with the hand-production of vases to this very day. Such products illustrate the various eras of the past 300 years in an iconographic fashion, including the modernism of the Wiener Werkstätte and culminating in the manufactory’s present-day artistic exchange with contemporary designers.

Porcelain Vase is a formally convincing and almost technical-seeming cone. Divided by three legs, its conical body provides an ideal base and remains stable even when used with long-stemmed plants. Its legs are not add-ons, but rather integral parts of the vase itself. The constructive interplay between the basic body’s consistency and the vase’s overall formal freedom gives rise to a highly distinct aura. The vase is one of a series of objects by Feichtner which are likewise based on a tripartite concept. While Mayas Bed 2008, Linz Hocker 2009 and Fruit Bowl 2010 are each highly individual works, they all stand out by virtue of having three legs.

The Porcelain Vase will be given its first public presentation in April 2011 at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan’s central Zona Tortona district.

Die “Porcelain Vase“ ist hergestellt von der traditionsreichen Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten. Vasen waren immer ein zentrales Element der Produktgestaltung und eine Art Reflexion der Kulturgeschichte. Sie sind archetypisch und autonom zugleich. Sie sind Zeitzeugen und Zukunftsvisionen gleichermaßen. Kaum eine österreichische Manufaktur ist enger mit der Geschichte der Vase verbunden als die Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten. Als zweitältester Porzellanhersteller produziert Augarten bis heute Vasen in Handarbeit. Ikonographisch verdeutlichen die Produkte die Epochen der letzten 300 Jahre bis zur Moderne der Wiener Werkstätten ebenso wie den gegenwärtigen Austausch der Manufaktur mit zeitgenössischem Design.

“Porcelain Vase“ ist ein fast technisch anmutender und formschlüssiger Kegel. Unterteilt durch drei Beine bildet der konische Körper eine ideale Standfläche und bleibt auch bei langstieligen Pflanzen stabil. Die Beine sind nicht additiv, sondern integrativer Bestandteil der Vase. Das konstruktive Wechselspiel zwischen konsequentem Grundkörper und freier Form führt zu einem eigenständigen Habitus. Die Vase fügt sich in eine Serie von Objekten Feichtners ein, die ebenso auf  Dreiteiligkeit basieren. Mayas Bed 2008, Linz Hocker 2009 und Fruit Bowl 2010 sind zwar eigenständige Objekte, zeichnen sich jedoch durch das gemeinsame Merkmal der Dreibeinigkeit aus.

Die “Porcelain Vase“ wird erstmals im April 2011, im Zuge der Salone Internazionale del Mobile in der Zona Tortona im Zentrum Mailands präsentiert.
