EUROPE STATE AWARD OF AUSTRIA

The Europe State Award designed by Thomas Feichtner was milled from a solid block of metal. Two diametrically opposed projected hexagons give a geometric, upwards tapering dodecagon. It is a formal interplay of surfaces and edges. The inspiration to that design was the interwoven history of Europe as well as the 12 stars of the European flag. With its almost two kilograms the State Award is not only a symbolically but also physically a weighty price.

Der Europa Staatspreis wurde nach einem Entwurf von Designer Thomas Feichtner aus einem massiven Metallblock gefräst. Zwei gegengleich ineinander projizierte Sechsecke ergeben ein geometrisches, sich nach oben hin verjüngendes Zwölfeck. Ein formales Wechselspiel von Flächen und Kanten. Inspiration dazu, war die wechselhafte und ineinander verflochtene Geschichte Europas sowie die 12 Sterne der Europaflagge. Mit seinen, fast zwei Kilogramm, ist der Staatspreis nicht nur symbolisch sondern auch physisch ein gewichtiger Preis.
