PANDORETTA / 360° SOUND SYSTEM

Thomas Feichtner has created the design for a 360° sound system by the Austrian startup producer Poet Audio. Thanks to the latest in Bluetooth technology, the Pandoretta system is capable of wireless music streaming from iPhones, other smartphones and computers. Seven loudspeakers and a crystal-clear 170-watt amplifier ensure a 360° high-end sound regardless of the listener’s position within a space. Feichtner’s approach to this project was much more akin to creating a design for a musical instrument than one for a classic consumer electronics product. His concept was to create an acoustic body that can project sound evenly and obstacle-free in every direction. And the Pandoretta is non-directional in its visible form, as well, appearing the same from all perspectives. Nowhere in Feichtner’s design are control elements to be seen, since the Pandoretta is meant to be controlled mainly by mobile devices. But even so, it is possible to control the Pandoretta manually, if necessary, via two hidden control surfaces. Much like in some fields of instrument building, solid oak and stainless steel are the main materials used. Production is carried out by Austrian company Poet Audio’s experienced team of audio engineers using computer-controlled CNC and laser technology.

Dank modernster Bluetooth-Technologie empfängt die Pandoretta Musik kabellos über iPhone, Smartphone oder Computer. Sieben Lautsprecher und ein kristallklarer 170 Watt Verstärker sorgen unabhängig von der Hörposition im Raum für einen 360° High-End Sound. Feichtners Herangehensweise war vielmehr, wie an einen Entwurf für ein Musikinstrument als wie an ein klassisches Consumer-Elektronics Produkt. Sein Konzept war es, einen phonetischen Körper zu schaffen, der ungehindert in alle Richtungen gleichmäßig ausstrahlen kann. Auch in seiner Form ist die Pandoretta richtungsungebunden und gleicht sich in allen Ansichten. Feichtners Entwurf verzichtet konsequent auf jegliche Bedienelemente, da die Pandoretta hauptsächlich über mobile Geräte angesteuert wird. Dennoch lässt sich die Pandoretta über zwei verborgene Schaltflächen notfalls auch mechanisch bedienen. Ähnlich wie im Instrumentenbau sind massives Eichenholz und Edelstahl die vorwiegenden Materialien. Die Herstellung über computergesteuerte CNC- und Laser-Technologie erfolgt über das österreichische Unternehmen Poet Audio, einem erfahrenen Team an Audio-Ingenieuren.
