It was keyboard shortcuts, those quick computer command abbreviations, which inspired designer Thomas Feichtner to create his synonymous table service for the Viennese Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten. The term “shortcut,” understood as a reference to simplicity and plainness, denotes a stark contrast to the classical and highly diversified porcelain services that the Manufactory, founded in 1718, originally produced. It is not the Sunday porcelain which only leaves its display case on special family occasions, but rather an honest, everyday porcelain set for a young generation. “We’re fast cooks who use refined recipes and quality ingredients, and that’s exactly how I wanted to design this porcelain,” says Feichtner. Which means one cup for both coffee and tea, one bowl for soup and salad, and a number of other such solutions. No one piece is designed for a specific type of food or dish; this service much rather consists simply of vessels and plates in various sizes. Multifunctional and abbreviated to contemporary dimensions. A shortcut on the keyboard of Viennese porcelain tradition.
